Gillian Carmichael Lemaire founded the firm in London in 2016 when she moved back to the UK after spending over 25 years practising international arbitration both as senior counsel and partner in international law firms in Paris.
Carmichael Lemaire Ltd focuses on international dispute resolution, principally commercial and investor-state arbitration and mediation. Its main sectors are construction, infrastructure, environmental, energy and utilities, as well general commercial and corporate disputes. It represents corporates, states and individuals, often as co-counsel with other law firms, with a particular emphasis on disputes arising out of projects and contracts involving private parties on the one hand and states/state entities on the other. The firm has extensive experience in Africa and the Middle East and maintains strong Franco-British relations. As well as contentious work, the firm fulfils an advisory role on risk and conflict management in international projects and contracts. Gillian also serves as arbitrator and mediator.
